Apart from phishing e-mails, unfortunately in recent years it has also become very common to collect information directly via websites. Find some tips on how to recognise such pages here.
- Read the information about phishing e-mails. In most cases, you will be directed to a phishing page via a link in a message in your e-mail inbox.
- Always check the URL before clicking a link. Often the links contain similar but not identical spellings. If the URL does not have the https:// code for a secure connection, do not click the link.
- Be careful when clicking on a banner ad. If a banner contains a compelling offer, be on your guard.
- Always use up-to-date virus protection.
- If a page asks you to update your payment information, open a new window and enter the original address (URL) of the page itself (e.g. Amazon.com or PayPal.com). You can change the entries here.
