How do I identify a phishing website?

Apart from phishing e-mails, unfortunately in recent years it has also become very common to collect information directly via websites. Find some tips on how to recognise such pages here.

  1. Read the information about phishing e-mails. In most cases, you will be directed to a phishing page via a link in a message in your e-mail inbox.
  2. Always check the URL before clicking a link. Often the links contain similar but not identical spellings. If the URL does not have the https:// code for a secure connection, do not click the link.
  3. Be careful when clicking on a banner ad. If a banner contains a compelling offer, be on your guard.
  4. Always use up-to-date virus protection.
  5. If a page asks you to update your payment information, open a new window and enter the original address (URL) of the page itself (e.g. Amazon.com or PayPal.com). You can change the entries here.
